Realtor Safety

Realtors are in one of the most vulnerable jobs that a person could choose as a career.  Who else among us meets complete strangers at an often vacant home or business and allows themselves to be targeted for sexual assault, robbery or murder?  Other than nurses and law enforcement, realtors are more likely to be assaulted than any other profession.

And with the current economic condition, realtors are more hungry for a sale and less likely to question someone when things don't seem quite right.  What makes matters worse is the unemployment rate is at a record high, crime is on the increase and people are more desperate every day.

Following are just a few stories of incidents in the past few years:

Realtor Garland Taylor of Albequrque, NM was killed while showing a home.

Two female realtors, Laurie Brown and Cynthia Williams were both killed in 2003 while showing a property in Atlanta.

Female realtor in Miami who deals exclusively in high end, multi-million dollar homes is the victim of a robbery when she met a stranger at a vacant home.  She stated that she didn't feel right about the man, he just didn't fit the profile of someone who could afford such a home.  Once inside, she was held at knife point, tied up and the offender's accomplices came in and cleaned the house out.
